  9. These drugs had an antacid and analgesic effect on ulcers but the neutralising effect of simple antacids like chalk, sodium carbonate or bicarbonate, magnesium carbonate, and bismuth carbonate rarely lasted for more than 2h and these preparations did not cure ulcers.
